Hang on, sister;

Hold on, friend

Project Description:

Mapleview Mall is a hub for retail shopping and community engagement in Burlington. While two large storefronts are undergoing a renovation, the team at Mapleview turned to Cobalt Connects to address the 15’ tall and 50’ space left tbehind.

The team at Mapleview was excited to use their space to promote a local artists and their values of inclusivity and engagement. Through a shortlisting process led by Cobalt Connects, the team selected Hamilton-based artist stylo starr.

Stylo’s bold collage and celebration of black women makes for a vibrant and welcoming entry to the Mall’s north end. ‘Hang on, sister; hold on friend’ will be on exhibition in Mapleview through until early 2024.

The work was digitally designed by the artist and then translated to 12 sheets of custom-cut dibond. Following Starr’s design the worked we attached to the drywall structure of the wall.
