Cobalt was founded by a group of artists in search of a home. We faced the standard assumptions of the day - artists made no money, were flakey and dirty. Not tenant material. In 2004, after much searching and conversation, we found our first phsyical location at 270 Sherman. At the time this 150,000 square foot facility was more than 75% vacant after a major manufacturing tenant closed its doors. Through a 7-year partnership with the owners 270 Sherman emerged as the go-to studio facility in Hamilton, and continues to serve hundreds of artists and cretive tenants under its new ownership.
This experience, and our subsequent 3 building partnerships (Studios at Hotel Hamilton, Paper Box Studios, Studio 302) throughout Hamilton, have taught Cobalt countless lessons. From understanding the day-to-day life of creative tenants, to the delicate dance that is building revitalization and development - Cobalt has emerged as an organization that prides itself on playing a catalystic role in spurring the continuum of creative space in Hamilton and beyond.
Cobalt is always seeking new property-driven projects that provide unique cultural opportunities for artists and the public.
